Enchanted Rock
Located primarily in Llano County, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is 22 miles south of Llano on Ranch Road 965. The Rock boasts 40 percent of the best climbs in the state. The diversity of its surface provides some exceptionally challenging face climbs and numerous crack climbs. Opened year-round, the park has 46 tent sites with tent-pads, picnic tables, overhead shelters, barbecue pits, and fire rings. An attractive playground and modern restroom facilities, complete with solar-heated showers, are available to campers.
For the adventuresome backpackers, the park has three remote camping areas. Each of the remote areas is equipped with composting toilets. In the picnic area provided for day visitors there are 63 picnic tables, a playground and restrooms. The park also has a group pavilion for the use of up to 75 persons, by reservation only. There are several designated hiking trails so visitors can explore the more remote areas of this 1,643-acre park. Call (915)247-3903 for information.
